According to multiple videos that are making rounds on social media platforms, an individual with a hammer was filmed brazenly robbing a jewelry store in the MixC Mall in Hangzhou, eastern China's Zhejiang province. When the police were arresting him, he was captured claiming that he is not Chinese and has diplomatic immunity — a claim that the police have since refuted.The police from Shangcheng police station in Hangzhou confirmed the online reports in a statement issued on the evening of March 9th.According to the statement, the police received multiple emergency calls from the public at around 18:34 on March 9th, reporting a gold robbery in action at the mall.
9 minutes after receiving the emergency calls, the police arrested the suspect whom they identified as Mr. Luo (23-year-old male from Yunnan).It is reported that Luo had flown from Yunnan to Hangzhou that same day, arriving in the city at 14:30.The police have yet to disclose the motive for the robbery.One of the person who witnessed the brazen robbery, Mr. Jiang, told reporters that he was eating at the mall with his family when a man wearing a duckbill hat suddenly ran into a jewelry store in the mall, and with a big hammer, smashed the showcasing mirror."Everyone was startled and I quickly asked my wife and children to hide somewhere. The man was alone, but had a very big hammer so nobody dared to intervene."Jiang said after smashing the showcasing mirror, the man took the jewelry and put them in his backpack, then moved to other showcasing mirrors and counters, and repeated the same thing.Police arrived when the robber was trying to flee the scene and arrested him outside the mall.When reporters arrived at the scene at 19:20, the safety tape was set at the entrance of store where the incident took place. There were also staff on site who were guiding people around the store.
